How Souldaters works

How is the compatibility percentage calculated?

Every profile you see in Discover shows a soul-match percentage. It combines the things that tend to matter in daily life together:

• Shared tribes — the strongest signal. Being in the same tribes usually means shared values or routines.
• Shared interests from the free-text interests on your profile.
• Diet — for example, two vegans or two vegetarians.
• Relationship goals — whether you both want a life partner, something long-term or new friends.
• Lifestyle — kids, smoking, drinking and exercise.
• Distance — closer people rank a little higher.

You also see why: short, human-readable reasons such as "3 shared tribes", "both plant-based" or "neither of you smokes". The score is a guide, not a verdict — plenty of great matches start at a lower number.

Which dealbreaker filters are there?

Dealbreakers are hard filters: when one is on, people who don't meet it simply don't appear in your Discover feed. They are all free.

• Only show vegans
• Only vegans & vegetarians
• Non-smokers only
• Sober / non-drinkers only
• Only no-makeup / minimal makeup
• Only people who exercise often
• Only profiles with photos
• Only verified members
• Only people who share a tribe with me
• Only people who want kids
• Only people who don't want kids

Filters only use what people put on their own profiles. If someone leaves a field empty, strict filters may hide them, so use them for true dealbreakers and let compatibility handle the preferences.

What are tribes?

Tribes are interest and identity groups. Each one is at the same time a tag on your profile, a filter in Discover, and a group with its own discussion board and public page. You can join up to 40. Popular ones include Vegan, No-makeup, Health-oriented, Spiritual, Sober, LGBTQ+, Over 50 and Single parents.

Any member can create a new tribe with a name, emoji and description. Member tribes get a public page straight away; they become visible to search engines once they have at least 3 members and a real description.

Dating mode vs Friends mode

Your intent tells others what you're here for: Dating, Friends only or Dating & friends. In Friends mode you'll see people open to friendship, and your likes are sent as friendly waves. Matching works the same way in both modes — mutual first, then chat — so friendship-seekers get the same calm inbox.

Likes, matches and "who liked you"

When you like someone, they don't get a message. If they like you back, it's a match. You can see who liked you for free and decide whether to like them back. There's a generous daily like limit (250 per day) to stop bots and mass-likers; real people rarely hit it.

Chat, unmatch, block and report

Chat is only possible inside an active match. If a conversation isn't right, you can unmatch (the chat closes for both of you), block (they can never see or contact you again) or report (a human moderator reviews it). You'll find these options on every profile and every tribe post. Read more on our safety page.

Who can see my profile?

Profiles are only visible to logged-in members and are not indexed by search engines. Others see how far away you are, never your exact location. You can pause your profile at any time, and you can delete your account whenever you like. Tribe pages may show a small public teaser of members who opted in, with username, age and city only.

Is there an app?

Souldaters is an installable web app. Open souldaters.com/app on your phone and choose "Add to Home Screen" (iPhone: Share menu in Safari; Android: browser menu). Native iOS and Android apps are coming later.
